Planium and Pantone 2025
As those like us at PLANIUM who deal with Design, or are simply passionate about it, have read in recent weeks, Pantone has established the color that will dictate its “reigning” line for 2025.
17-1230 is the color code that designates Mocha Mousse, the protagonist of this year. It is a color that we would certainly define in the brown spectrum, with a substantially light tone and its own sophisticated harmony. “Mocha Mousse, a warm shade of brown full of an innate richness that nourishes with its suggestion of the delicious quality of cocoa, chocolate and coffee, appealing to our desire for comfort”: this is what the Institute writes in the first person, privileging here, among the senses, that of taste.
In Planium, which deals with flooring and coating with metal sheets, this color can be found in oxidized steel which, starting from a basic color in classic silver tones, becomes ? after the oxidation process ? a color close to brown, darker than classic stainless steel, but lighter than the common shade.
The processes for the already oxidized metal texture that Planium offers are two: the first, brushed, is a shade of gray very close to cedar/wood, browns with slightly cold nuances. And in fact it is a type of metal that can be ideally combined with wood, to give alternation between similar shades but one opaque, the other brighter and more iridescent, in a classic encounter. It therefore maintains within itself a bit of the original character of the steel. The other texture available for the oxidized Steel is “Canvas”. This is a more autumnal texture and a full brown, with a double orthogonal satin finish ? that is, vertically and horizontally.
A steel therefore divided between hot and cold, also combinable with other types of Planium metal for finishes: Brass and smooth stainless steel, above all. In one direction we will remain in the hot-hot continuity, but with light and dark shades; in the other, the hot-cold alternation will be enhanced.
Gray ? brown is in fact a historically relevant combination also in fashion, in clothing. Think of the virtuous jacket-trousers separates used in this color combination but also, in general for interior design, the use for curtains that can be matched to the colors of armchairs, sofas or indeed, as in the case of Planium, wall coverings or floors.
It is right and important that Design returns to valorize an earth color: too often we hear that this is a dull shade, that it is outdated, that it belongs to the past: but the opposite is true! And that is that being a classic, it cyclically comes back into fashion in all sectors, without ever going out of fashion. Like earth.
